James W. Hughes, 92, of Yonkers left us peacefully on Nov. 14 surrounded by family and loved ones.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, James, or “Jim,” will be remembered for his love of family and friends and willingness to help those in need.
Born July 25, 1932, in the Bronx, Jim grew up the son of James Hughes and Ethel Clarke Hughes, brother to John, Joseph and Mildred.
Jim had a long and distinguished career in television broadcasting, where he worked for major television networks covering everything from local news in New York, national political conventions, major sporting events, from the World Series, NFL Football and the Olympics. Jim also was part of the broadcast teams covering the Apollo space missions from NASA and the historic landing of the first man on the moon.
Jim is survived by his children, Kevin Hughes, Ronda Brooks, Scott Brooks, Michael Brooks and Rich Hughes, as well as his grandchildren, Courtney and Steven Brooks, Sam, Hunter and Devon Smith and Angie Flyte, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives Jo-Ann Baker and Eileen Brooks as well as his, son James.
A wake will be held at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents RC Church in Pleasantville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or The Retina Society.
