Trump’s Threatened Mass Deportation Could Jeopardize Mt. Kisco’s Future

As a resident of Mount Kisco, which has a population that is nearly half Hispanic based on the last Census, I am beginning to wonder what would take place in this village if Donald Trump is elected president yet again and he goes forward with carrying out his proposed mass deportation, which is central to his campaign.

It would be a mistake to dismiss it as empty campaign rhetoric, particularly since he has continued to repeat his lies about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio eating residents’ pet cats and dogs and calling for their deportation even though they are in the U.S. legally. Therefore, any nonwhite immigrant, not just the undocumented which Trump has previously singled out for deportation, but even those legally here like the Haitians, possibly would be in jeopardy of being rounded up by the police or military and placed in massive detention camps and then deported if Trump gets back into the White House.

Exactly what would take place in Mount Kisco if this mass deportation actually happened is, of course, impossible to say, but to think about it is chilling and it would likely have very severe consequences for the village. Given how close the polls are in the swing states and Trump’s expected refusal to concede and to challenge the election outcome right up to Jan. 6 when Congress certifies the results and even Inauguration Day if he loses again, mass deportation could certainly become reality.

When it comes to Springfield, Trump’s racism is out in the open. Americans should be clear about what Trump represents and reject him, and demand that so-called “moderate” Republican officials speak out against this mass deportation campaign promise that energizes the MAGA movement but could threaten not only a village like Mount Kisco but the very the fabric of this country.
