Outdoor Farmers Markets Reopen Throughout the Region

If you enjoy shopping at farmers markets, this is the best time of year. Many markets that closed last year in time for winter have been steadily opening throughout the area. So get out to your favorite market and enjoy shopping for the fresh seasonal bounty.

White Plains Farmers Market. A welcome sign of the new season, this popular market is in full swing on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. through Nov. 27. Chappaqua Farmers Market. Opens this Saturday, May 11 until the third week of December. Located at the Chappaqua Metro-North station on Allen Place in Chappaqua on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Info: Visit www.chappaquafarmersmarket.org.

Cold Spring Farmers Market at Boscobel. The popular Cold Spring Farmers Market is housed in the historic Boscobel Estate Museum & Garden in Garrison. A lovely setting. A year-round market, its current hours are on Saturdays through October from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Info: Visit www.csfarmmarket.org.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market. There will be a special Mother’s Day market on Saturday, May 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The weekly market, which operates on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., opens May 25 for its 10^th anniversary season. A Savory Pho Stop at Saigonese

A Vietnamese cuisine craving brought us to Saigonese in Hartsdale one recent afternoon. A good cozy spot for spring rolls, big bowls of pho, spareribs and delicious bun vermicelli bowls with lettuce wraps. I went for the beef stew noodle soup with beef chunks served in an aromatic beef broth with carrots, lemongrass, fried shallots, scallions, cilantro and onions. Bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos and lime are served on the side. Quite soothing and satisfying.

My partner ordered the traditional Vietnamese crepe, a pan-fried crepe with shrimp and pork, onions, scallions, bean sprouts and mung beans served with lettuce wraps, mint and fish sauce on the side. I enjoy doing those wraps. A real treat!

Harrison Food Foray

The Harrison Public Library will receive all the proceeds from the upcoming Taste of Harrison on Sunday, May 19 from 12 to 3 p.m. Local restaurants and shops will be offering samples and sips to savor including Trattoria Vivolo, Café Deux, Carvel, Fat Stu’s Bar & Grill, Harrison Meadows Country Club, Oshinbo, Patsy’s Pizzeria, Don Chuy’s Tacos, Sofia’s Pizzeria, Pizza 2000, Laughing Horse and Uncle Henry’s. Wine & Food Festival to Return

Westchester Magazine’s popular culinary event has been drawing area gourmands for over a decade. It has returned with gusto, scheduled for June 4-9. It is marked with six days of special dinners, contests and tastings at various locations around Westchester. Food and wine personalities will also be on hand.

More than 100 restaurants and food trucks will be represented, with over 150 wine, beer and spirits purveyors on hand. Advance tickets and reservations are required.
