Mary Elizabeth Schneider, a Chappaqua resident, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 21 surrounded by many members of her large family. She was 100 years old.
MaryLiz was born in the Bronx to the late Dr. James and Gertrude Lynch on Mar. 24, 1923. A graduate of the College of New Rochelle, she married Edward T. Schneider in 1945, and together they raised a family of five children in Westchester County. Her husband preceded her in death in 2012.
In addition to being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, MaryLiz was an avid horsewoman and golfer. In recent years, she enjoyed winters in West Palm Beach, Fla.
MaryLiz is survived by her children, Thomas Schneider, John (Deborah) Schneider, Kathleen (Andrew) Szczesniak, Jean (John) Schob and Mary Vierengel, as well as by 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. John and St. Mary in Chappaqua on Oct. 30. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Alzheimer’s research would be appreciated.
