Lawler Must Prove He Supports Protecting Social Security, Medicare

Representative Mike Lawler says “I am well on the record in support of protecting both Social Security and Medicare” and he does not seem to understand why the issue keeps coming up.
Let me help you with this, Mike. It’s true that your record contains many statements to the press in support of these programs, and your congressional voting record does not yet address this issue. You are, unfortunately, a guy whose press releases and votes do not always go in the same direction. See, for example, your statement to the press about endless partisan investigations: “We’ve seen what happens with these partisan food fights, and I don’t think it necessarily serves the country well.” But when it came to voting, you voted in favor of creating the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, designed specifically to run endless partisan food fights.
Then, consider your party leaders calling for privatization of these programs and helping your Checkpoint consulting firm, which has given to right wing extremists pledging to slash these programs. The way to put this issue to bed is not more press releases, it’s to release a proposed budget. Show us how you can cut the deficit without cutting the major spending programs or reversing Trump’s disastrous tax cuts for the rich. We’d like to know.
Biden has released a budget, why can’t the House? Apparently, your strategy is to wait until the debt ceiling reaches crisis proportions and then put your ideas on the table when no one has time to read or understand them. Voters have shown that we don’t appreciate chaos and confrontation, we want representatives who will get down to work governing and making America better. We want to see your budget, not just your press releases.
