The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains hosted its 32nd Annual Wheelchair Games Saturday, as athletes of all ages with disabilities competed in a variety of track and field events.

Despite an overcast sky and forecast calling for rain, approximately 75 athletes competed in everything from table tennis to distance running.

“It’s really a good meet for them,” said Debbie Armento, who works with Wheelchair & Ambulatory Sports, USA. “It’s an encouraging meet for them to give them a goal, and they can reach those goals and feel good about who they are.”

In the track events, competitors were grouped based on age, level of disability, functional level and muscle tone level. The games were a day-long event, with the field competitions taking place in the morning and the races held in the afternoon.
