Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announces an initiative to reduce teen drinking in the county.

In an effort to curb underage drinking in White Plains and across Westchester County, city and county officials have teamed up with White Plains beer importer Heineken USA to launch an advertising campaign aimed at stopping the sale of alcohol to people under 21 years old.

The ads, which state “The legal drinking age is 21,” will run on buses, in bus shelters, in print and in other media across the county, Heineken USA Director of Communications Tara Carraro said, as the initiative was announced in White Plains Tuesday morning.

“We’re working along with county and local government here in the City of White Plains to make sure all the establishments in the area understand that it’s against the law and it’s just not good business to serve individuals under the age of 21,” said Carraro. “Responsible consumption of our products by those of legal drinking age is critically important, but ensuring that our brands are not purchased and consumed by those under 21 is paramount to us as an organization.”

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore and White Plains Mayor Tom Roach stated their support for the initiative Tuesday.
