Couple Accused of Selling Heroin in Mahopac
A Philipstown man and his Yorktown fiancé were arrested for selling heroin in Mahopac.
Paul Rivera, a 22-year-old Garrison resident, and Tiffany Marks, a 21-year-old Yorktown resident, were arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s department after a month long investigation into local heroin sales.
In early July, an undercover deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit, developed information that the pair was involved in trafficking heroin at various shopping center parking lots located in the Mahopac section of the town of Carmel, the sheriff’s office reported. The deputy was able to infiltrate their operation and purchase heroin from them on several occasions.
Rivera and Marks were arrested on Aug. 10 after they allegedly sold 29 baggies of heroin the undercover deputy.
Rivera and Marks were each charged with five counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class B felonies. In addition Marks was charged with five misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal facilitation.
The pair was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail each.
The couple’s 2000 Saturn was seized and is subject to asset forfeiture proceedings, as a result of the investigation.
They are due back in court in September. Each of them faces a maximum nine year jail sentence if convicted of the most serious crime.
