Greenburgh Public Library Receives Grant to Build a Cafe
The Greenburgh Public Library has received a construction grant from the State of New York, which will provide the library with the opportunity to create a café adjacent to its lobby, Greenburgh Town Supervisor said in a recent email.
The café will provide library patrons access to what is currently an unused patio, which was part of the original library. The grant, recently announced by Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, is for $141,152 to cover 75% of the construction cost. The balance of the cost of the project has been provided by the Town of Greenburgh and a generous donation from the family of Ruth Jacobs, a longtime library supporter and member of The Friends of the Greenburgh Public Library, Feiner said.
The café area will provide tables and counter space for 24 people. There will be no food service at the café. Instead, vending machines will provide healthy snacks and hot and cold drinks. The patio will be furnished with tables, chairs and landscaping that will allow library patrons to enjoy good weather while being at the library. The project is meant to relieve crowded conditions in the library lobby, which is currently the only area of the library where patrons may eat and snack.
The project is ready to go out to bid and should be completed by early spring, according to Feiner.
