Electrical Fire Closes Putnam Board of Elections
An electrical fire has forced the Putnam County Board of Elections to close until at least Friday, an election official said.
The fire started Tuesday night, possibly after the building was struck by lightning, Election Commissioner Tony Scannapieco said. He added that there were still people in the office, who reported the fire to the Carmel Fire Department.
“Thank God we still had people working,” Scannapieco said.
Scannapieco said the building itself appears to have sustained minimal damage at worst but is without electricity. He aims to have the building open by the end of the week.
“I hope so,” he said. “We have a primary coming up.”
