New Jersey Man Found Guilty of Murdering Ossining Resident
A New Jersey man was found guilty Friday of robbing and murdering a 25-year-old Ossining man in August 2014 in an apartment complex during a planned drug transaction.
Anthony Grecco could face a life prison sentence on May 25 after a jury determined following a nine-day trial that he stabbed Ryan Ennis to death and robbed him of $8,900.
“Anthony Grecco took a human life, violently murdering Ryan Ennis, for a few thousand dollars,” said Preet Bharara, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. “A unanimous jury reached a swift verdict, holding Grecco accountable for his callous crime.”
According to evidence presented at the trial, Ennis was a customer of Grecco who would purchase marijuana and resell it in the Ossining area. By the last summer of 2014 Grecco’s marijuana supply dried up and he became desperate for cash.
Grecco set up a meeting with Ennis to bring more marijuana, but his intentions were to rob Ennis, and kill him, if necessary, according to Bharara. Grecco was seeking money to invest in the heroin business of another drug dealer in New Jersey. Prior to the August 26, 2014 meeting, Grecco obtained a knife and stuffed a backpack with linens to make it look like it was full with marijuana.
On that day, Grecco drove with two accomplices to Ossining where Ennis was waiting alone in his father’s apartment. During the course of the robbery inside, Grecco stabbed Ennis repeatedly and slashed his throat, killing him. After the murder, Grecco returned to New Jersey where he showered and threw away blood-stained clothes he had been wearing.
Village of Ossining Police, City of Peekskill Police and Westchester County Police assisted in the investigation of the case.
