PV School Board Appoints New Principal, Athletic Director

The Putnam Valley Board of Education has appointed a new high school principal, who will begin work at the start of the new school year in September.
Current principal, Vincent Burruano announced his retirement in April and on Thursday night; Sandra Intrieri was selected to fill the position at an annual salary of $160,000.
“This is a critical moment for our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Fran Wills. “This is an opportunity to go to the next level.”
Wills explained that the district went through a rigorous process over the course of the past two months in order to find the right person for the position. The district hired a search consultant and placed ads in various educational publications and interviewed a number of applicants throughout May. Five candidates were interviewed by school officials, as well as community volunteers, and a community forum, which included parents and students, was held as well. Eventually, the candidate pool was narrowed down to two people, who were both interviewed by the school board on Monday and after contacting references and visiting the school where she is currently employed, it was decided that Intrieri was right match for the job.
Intrieri is currently the principal at Millbrook High School and has previously worked as a curriculum coordinator and assistant principal in Dobbs Ferry and taught social studies for 20 years in three different districts. She is currently working towards obtaining a doctorate degree from Manhattanville College.
“She has a very rich and varied experience as an educational leader and she brings the deep knowledge and skills that comes with addressing the challenges in diverse settings,” said Wills. “More important, the reports and references from her colleagues, teachers, parents, (and) students indicate that she possesses the attributes we have been seeking in the principal position.”
In addition to appointing a new principal, the school board appointed a new director of physical education, athletics, and health. Brian Burrow, who had previously served as a physical education teacher for the district was promoted to the director position at an annual salary of $135,000. Burrow, who has been serving as the interim athletic director of since February recently completed an administrative internship with the district and will begin his new position on July 1.
“Throughout his career, Mr. Burrow has built strong and lasting relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers and coaches,” said Wills. “We look forward to Mr. Burrow’s kind and positive approach to problem solving and his mindful philosophy that promoted educational excellence and student engagement.”
