Business Profile: Mancini Realty, Somers
Somers resident Joan Mancini said last week she became a real estate broker thanks to her husband, Rick, who is a builder.
“I had been pushing him to get his license to market his own properties,” Mancini recalled. After he earned his real estate broker’s license Rick Mancini convinced his wife to follow in his footsteps.
Today, the couple own Mancini Realty in Somers. “It went from part-time to full-time,” Joan Mancini said.
Mancini Realty sells both residential and commercial properties. “We sell everything,” Mancini explained. “We sell residential. We do rentals. We do sales. We do commercial. We do land, new construction.”
Mancini Realty deals mostly with properties in Westchester and Putnam counties. Mancini Realty has been in operation since 2001. Mancini said she chose her location in an antique colonial building which is a short distance past the Elephant Hotel because it is in the center of town in the Historical District. “We’re part of the hub of Somers,” she said.
One of the keys to the success of her business is the family’s familiarity with town residents, Mancini said. “My husband grew up in Somers; I’ve lived in Somers for 37 years. My kids have grown up in Somers and we’ve had the business here for a long time,” she said. “It’s our hometown.”
Mancini said she enjoys what she is doing for a living. “You’re finding people a home,” she said. “That’s very satisfying.”
Mancini said her firm has an outstanding relationship with it clients and that has been a boon for her business. “I get a lot of referrals,” she said.
A much greater use of technology has been a major change in her business, Mancini said. “Everything is on line now. It used to be more where people would see a sign and then they’d call a realtor,” Mancini said. But today, “as soon as a listing comes on everything goes on line,” she said. “People are able to see inside a house where before it was one picture.”
“It’s just so different from what it was,” Mancini said. “You’re able to get much more information out there.”
To be a successful real estate broker a person must be able to easily connect with people, “which all the agents in this office seem to do very, very well,” Mancini said. “And really understanding what someone’s needs are. It’s really a very personal service that we do.”
“Every one of us has a passion for what we do,” Mancini said. “Every one of us loves working with people and I think that says a lot about how you approach the business.”
