Brewster Students Salute Vets with Musical Performance
For the fourth straight year, Brewster High School students will show an appreciation to veterans in Putnam County with a special concert honoring men and women of the Armed Forces.
This Thursday, Brewster High School Choirs will present “A Salute to Veterans,” free of charge for all veterans that make the trek to the high school’s performing arts center. For the past three years, high school principal Dr. Joseph Castagnola said the performance is a great way for students to connect with veterans, old and young.
The origin of the performance came when choral music teacher Patty Taylor and social studies teacher Rob Gallacher, who does a lot of work with veterans in the county, came to Castagnola to discuss a different way to celebrate Veterans Day.
“Not the traditional way but a way that we celebrate and we honor our veterans through song,” Castagnola said.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and every year, Castagnola said, “we get a packed house, standing room only.”
“It’s amazing,” Castagnola, who always attends and introduces the students, noted. “It’s one of the premier events of our school year.”
