GOP Reigns Supreme in Putnam on Election Night
Republicans proved they are still the political party of choice for most voters in Putnam County, sweeping Democratic opponents in dominating fashion on Election Night Tuesday.
County Executive MaryEllen Odell, running on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence lines, earned her first full term in office, defeating Democrat and longtime legislator Sam Oliverio. Odell, a Carmel resident who has served for three years as the county’s top public official, took almost 60 percent of the vote. Sometime after 10 p.m., Oliverio, classy in defeat, came to the Villa Barone Hilltop Manor in Mahopac to concede and congratulate Odell.
In the other countywide seat—the county clerk post— Republican Michael Bartolotti topped Democrat Lithgow Osborne rather easily, collecting 63 percent of the vote to Osborne’s 36 percent. Bartolotti, who has been the first deputy clerk for the past dozen years, will replace longtime clerk Dennis Sant after his current term expires.
The race for all three legislative seats up for grabs also went Republican, translating into a full Republican county Legislature in January. In District 2, Bill Gouldman topped Wendy Whetsel and in District 3, Toni Addonizio beat Green Party member Jeff Green, who was running on the Democratic ticket.
In District 8, after beating her on primary day, Republican Dini LoBue defeated Amy Sayegh again, who was running on just the Independence line.
In the only town race, a special election to fill a vacant town board seat, Republican Shawn Rogan won against Democrat Luz Shulgin.
