Port Chester Woman Killed in White Plains DWI Crash
Off duty White Plains firefighter, Erik Refvik, 34, of White Plains was charged with criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated after his Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into a Honda driven by Edgar Lopez, 49 at the corner of S. Lexington and Martine avenues at about 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Lopez was delivering newspapers during the early morning hours with his wife, Reyda LaMadrid, 47, both of Port Chester. She was sitting in the back seat when the car was broadsided by Refvik’s SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Lopez is in serous condition at Westchester Medical Center.
A report by CBS news said the couple had three children.
Refivk was allegedly traveling at high speed, heading north and in the wrong direction on one-way South Lexington Avenue. He hit the Honda at the intersection of Martine Avenue, near the Galleria mall. His car then crashed into a nearby residential building.
Police reports indicate Refvik’s alcohol blood level was at .145 percent. He was arraigned at Westchester Medical Center. Bail was set at $25,000 and Refvik was suspended without pay, according to White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong.
