White Plains School Board to Extend Connors’ Term as Interim School Superintendent
At its Monday night meeting, the White Plains Board of Education was expected to negotiate an extension of the contract with Timothy P. Connors as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the year beginning July 1, 2014. Authorization to do so was placed on the agenda.
In a statement leading up to the meeting, the Board said that after a nationwide search for a new superintendent and an extended interview process, they had concluded the best option for the district at this time would be to ask Connors to stay on as Interim Superintendent for an additional year.
Connors returned to White Plains last year as Interim Superintendent, after having served a seven-year term as Superintendent in the district, from 2002 through 2009.
School Board President Rosemarie Eller said: “We are confident that we have made the proper choice at this time for the students, staff and community. Mr. Connors will ensure continuity and stability as he continues to move the district forward. The search for a permanent replacement will begin in the fall.”
Previous to his employment in White Plains in 2002, Connors had been Superintendent in Danbury, Connecticut, Bloomington, Minnesota, and Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He did his undergraduate work at Springfield College in Massachusetts and has a Master’s Degree and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from Harvard. Connors also participated in the Urban Superintendents Program at Harvard.
Monday’s meeting will also highlight a public presentation and hearing on the 2014-15 Proposed School Budget, which will be brought before voters for approval on May 20.
A second public hearing at the meeting will review the District-wide School Safety Plan and Code of Conduct under Project SAVE including the Dignity of All Students Act (DASA). The plan provides a framework for the District’s safety initiative focusing on prevention, preparedness and crisis response.
