Prideful Ossining Falls Short in Federation Title Tilt
ALBANY — Ossining High picked a bad time to have, perhaps, its only sub-par performance of the most remarkable girls’ basketball season in school history; a season that ended Saturday evening at the hands of Long Island Lutheran, who defeated Ossining 63-57 in the Class AA Federation Tournament of Champions Tournament at the Times Union Center.
Perhaps the youngest team in state history to win a NYSPHSAA Class AA championship, youthful Ossining made rookie-like mistakes down the stretch and throughout portions of the first half, but the Pride’s valiant but futile second-half comeback against the No.1 team in NYS was telling.
“We almost accomplished what only one NYSPHSAA team has ever done,” Ossining Coach Dan Ricci said, noting Cicero-North’s Class AA Federation, “we just came up short. I couldn’t be prouder of my girls, not one of them a senior.”
