Mohegan Lake Man Charged in Chase Bank Robbery
A Mohegan Lake man was arrested Friday by State Police in Cortlandt for the July 31 robbery of a Chase bank inside the A&P at the Cortlandt Town Center.
Desmond O. Mighty, 51, of Mohegan Lake, was charged with one count of robbery in the first degree following an intensive investigation into the July 31 bank robbery, which took place at approximately 9:15 a.m. Mighty, who was carrying a red back pack during the robbery and reportedly claimed to have a gun but never displayed it, stole between $2,300 and $3,000 before casually walking into the parking lot and driving away in a red car.
Investigation, including helicopter surveillance, led to the identification of Mighty as a potential suspect, and following extensive interviews, Mighty was arrested and charged with the Class “D” Violent Felony. If convicted, Mighty faces up to seven years in State Prison.
State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United State Postal Inspectors Office, and the City of Peekskill Police Department.
Mighty was arraigned in Town of Cortlandt Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail pending a future court appearance.
