Yorktown Democrats Renew Support for Bianco
The co-chairman of Yorktown’s Democratic Committee is confident the party will be united in supporting Councilman Nick Bianco for supervisor following a failed effort by a former committee chairman to block the endorsement.
“It’s a united party going forward,” said Ron Stokes. “It’s a very strong ticket up and down the line. I think we’re a group that has tremendous energy. I’m confident everyone will come together and support the ticket.”
Former committee chairman and ex-town justice Marc Oxman requested an opportunity to address district leaders last week and try to convince them choosing Bianco, a registered Conservative, was not in the best interests of the party.
Stokes said more than 40 district leaders were in attendance at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center and more than 80% supported Bianco. Last month, more than 90% backed Bianco over former Supervisor Susan Siegel, a registered Republican.
“When you win by 90% in one vote and 80% in another that’s a very decisive mandate,” Stokes said. “Marc is a legendary, long standing member in good standing with the committee. He certainly had the right to speak and no one was going to muzzle him.”
Bianco, who is looking to make Michael Grace a one-term supervisor, has also been endorsed by the leadership of the Conservative and Independence parties.
“Once again I thank the Democratic Committee for their overwhelming support,” he said. “Unfortunately a small minority who represent special interests unsuccessfully tried to block the committee choice.”
