Somers Supervisor Leaving to Seek County Clerk Seat
Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy confirmed Monday she will not be seeking reelection to the seat she has held for the last 15 years.
Instead, Murphy will be running for Westchester County Clerk in November against Democratic incumbent Tim Idoni.
“I very much enjoy my job as supervisor. I have administered the Town of Somers very well over the last 15 years. The town is well run,” she said. “The County Clerk’s Office has a lot of administrative functions. I think it’s a good synergy for me.”
Murphy was first appointed supervisor in May 1998 to replace Bill Harding. A few years ago, she unsuccessfully ran a Republican primary against Greg Ball for state Senate when Senator Vincent Leibell ran for Putnam County executive.
“Even though I have been here 15 years it’s a very interesting job,” she said. “I have a great relationship with the people I work with and many volunteers in the community and I will miss those relationships.”
Murphy, an attorney, will be seeking the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines in her quest to unseat Idoni and looks forward to running on the same ticket with Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.
“I think Rob is a great county executive and I’m very enthusiastic about him getting re-elected,” she said.
