Local Artists Are Inspired by Nature in Mahopac

We are part of The Trust Project
Sept. 25 Putnam Artists Pix
Just one the many pairings of painter Jane Bennett’s and photographer Joanne Colangelo’s artwork that are part of a joint exhibition now on display at the Mahopac Public Library’s Third Floor Gallery.

The exhibit of local artists Jane Bennett’s paintings and Joanne Colangelo’s photographs is currently on view in the Third Floor Gallery at Mahopac Public Library.  The gallery is open during regular Library hours and the works will remain on view through Sunday, Sept. 30.

Both the painter and the photographer said that they are inspired by natural settings and their artwork is an expression of the beauty they see in their surroundings, both in an abstract and a realistic way.

Bennett has been painting since she was young and enjoys working in acrylics and watercolors.  She often uses personal photographs to inform her work.  Her recent paintings lean more towards the abstract as a departure from her usual florals and landscapes.

In 2012, Bennett was chosen to participate in the Accessible Art shows in the Danbury, Connecticut area.  Her first show was at the Danbury Museum during the months of February and March.  She also displayed her worked in Danbury City Hall and at the Danbury City Center.  Her works have also been exhibited at the Easton Arts Council and at the Maritime Gallery in Norwalk, Conn.

Colangelo and her family have been Mahopac residents for more than 31 years.  Colangelo earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology and education from Mercy College, and then earned a master of science degree in instructional reading.  She loves to write and has had her articles published in various newspapers and magazine.  An avid animal lover, Colangelo currently serves on the board of directors for the Putnam Humane Society where she is an active volunteer. Her photography is an enjoyable hobby for her and she uses her skill to photograph homeless pets to help them find adoptive homes.
