Rights, Yee to Seek Re-Election and Town Board Majority
Southeast Supervisor Michael Rights is expected to announce his intention to run for re-election Wednesday night, along with Councilman Dwight Yee and town board candidate Robert Bock. Rights said in a press release the trio will be announcing their plans at a dinner at Aversano’s Restaurant on Route 22 in Brewster.
Rights and Yee were each elected in 2007, both members of the “Save Our Southeast” faction of the town’s Republican Party. They’ve often clashed with the board’s majority, councilmen Roger Gross, Liz Hudak and Bob Cullen.
“As a positive team we can freeze property taxes, grow the tax base to create private sector jobs, and crack down on the impact of illegal immigration in our community,” Rights said in the press release.
With Gross up for re-election, the SOS faction is looking to claim the majority. In 2009, SOS candidates Joe DePaola and Matt Neuringer lost to Hudak and Cullen in the Republican primary.
Rights is almost certain to face a Republican challenger, possibly County Legislator Tony Hay. If Hay doesn’t run, Cullen said he is considering a run for the seat.
The announcement is set for 7 p.m.
