“The Girl on the Train” to Film in White Plains
DreamWorks Studios is scheduled to begin filming the adaptation of the Number 1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train” beginning November 4 through December 9 in White Plains, including parts of the Gedney Farms neighborhood.
The lead role of Rachel Watson will be played by Emily Blunt of “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Edge of Tomorrow” fame.
“The Girl on the Train” is a psychological thriller novel by British author Paula Hawkins – a real page-turner.
The novel debuted at number one on the The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2015 list (combined print and e-book) dated February 1, 2015 and remained in the top position for 13 consecutive weeks. By early March 2015, the novel had sold over 1 million copies and 1.5 million by April.
The film rights were acquired by DreamWorks Pictures in 2014 for Marc Platt Productions.
The story is a first person narrative told from the point of view of three women: Rachel, Anna and Megan.
Rachel Watson is a 32-year-old alcoholic who is going through a difficult time in her life. Her ex-husband left her two years ago for his mistress. Tom, her ex, and Anna are now married and have a daughter. However, Tom cheats on Anna by having an affair with married neighbor Megan Hipwell. As the story begins, Megan is pregnant and secretly believes Tom to be the father.
While Rachel rides the train to and from London every day, she notices a beautiful couple whose lives she envies as they look happy. She watches them on their deck and though she has never met them, she believes them to be the perfect couple. Days later, she sees a news story about a woman’s disappearance and realizes it is the woman – Megan. … If you have not yet read the book, might be time to do so – or perhaps wait for the movie, which will be released in 2016.
A recent notice from the Mayor’s office invited White Plains residents to apply to have their homes placed in a database for possible movie production.
The City of White Plains is considered to be strategically located within the “Studio Zone Radius.” This means that film crews can film here and studios do not have to reimburse them for travel time or hotels, thus making filming in White Plains desirable and economical.
White Plains has recently hosted crews from Elementary, Madam Secretary, Sneaky Pete, Billions, Mr. Robot, and Blindspot. In recent months, the library, restaurants on Mamaroneck Avenue, and homes in residential neighborhoods have all served as film sets in various productions.
Contact the Mayor’s office at 914-422-1411 for more information or to be included in the database.
