$20.8M Capital Projects Bond Approved by Voters in Croton-Harmon
Voters in the Croton-Harmon School District approved a $20.82 million capital projects bond Tuesday.
The final tally of the referendum was 465 in favor and 152 against.
The proposed projects in the district’s three school buildings are estimated to be completed by the summer 2021. School officials stated approval of the bond would enable the district to repair, upgrade and protect its aging infrastructure over the next five years in conjunction with New York State health and safety regulations and guidelines, while also addressing evolving educational programs for students.
Some of the work included in the bond is replacing the third and fourth grade window/curtain wall at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School, upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning and plumbing, creating collaborative learning spaces at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School and Croton-Harmon High School, adding lighting at the elementary school and upgrading the fire alarm system at the high school.
District officials have said approval of the bond will not raise taxes for residents due to the ending of old debt. In addition, the district is anticipating being reimbursed for approximately 41% of the cost of the projects over the next 15 years from New York State Building Aid.
