Lawler’s Record Often Doesn’t Match His Public Comments

As a variation of the old Ray Charles song goes, “What he’d say?”

Anyone really trying to sort out fact from fiction in this election will most probably either buy the pitch or simply favor that candidate who seems to be someone “they would like to have a beer with,” but more often than not throw up their hands up in exasperation trying to sort out truth from exaggeration and hyperbole.

Which brings us to the matchup of Mondaire Jones versus Mike Lawler.

Watching his campaign, I find Lawler operating as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, speaking moderately in multiple TV appearances and sounding as middle of the road, fair-minded and practical as a Republican of old or any centrist Democrat. And, while I admire Mike as a canny politician, unfortunately, his rhetoric simply does not match his congressional performance.

To cite just two examples, Lawler promises gun safety but works against any proposed legislation calling for reasonable background checks or a ban on the sale of assault weapons to civilians. So, if you care about the ongoing slaughter of kids in schools, you might be concerned.

In fact, his moderately-voiced position on abortion does not match his congressional voting record. Simply said, he is running as a moderate but voting like an extremist and supporting Trump.

In contrast, may I point out the importance of having Mondaire Jones, a former congressman and proven supporter of our values, elected to office on the Democratic ticket and strengthening the Democratic position in the House.

He has raised himself from a humble childhood to appreciate the importance of providing more opportunity for all, i.e. affordable housing, job opportunities, and most importantly, has demonstrated his willingness to fight for a bigger slice of the pie for all Americans. I urge you to vote Row A to save our democracy.
